Coxen determined to come out on top in EFC grudge match

Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen is itching to face Conrad ‘Cage Wise’ Seabi in the EFC 71 hexagon.

Fresh off the high of his win, by technical knock out (TKO), against HP van Staden, Elsburg-based Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) fighter Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen is itching to get back into the hexagon.

And he will get his wish when he faces Conrad ‘Cage Wise’ Seabi in the hexagon as part of EFC 71’s main fight card on Saturday at Carnival City.

The men will meet in a welterweight fight which Coxen admits is somewhat of a grudge match.

“There has been bad blood between myself and Seabi for over a year, since an exchange of words at Sun City.

“After my win against van Staden, I was asked who I wanted to face next and since we had once again exchanged words backstage before my fight I called Seabi out and asked the event organisers for the opportunity to face him in the ring,” explained Coxen.

This request was met by a roar of approval from the crowd and days later Coxen and his camp received a call confirming that the men would indeed be meeting in the hexagon.

“I was thrilled and after taking my normal week off after my EFC 69 fight I got straight back into training,” he said.

Coxen describes Seabi as a strong stand-up fighter but he isn’t worried as he and his coach Ferid Basson from Junkyard MMA have been working hard to prepare for the fight.

“I have been working on stamina and also conditioning which means I have been taking more hits during training to prepare myself as best I can,” he said.

Aside from the excitement and pressure that this match brings, Coxen is feeling a few nerves as this will be his first inclusion in the EFC main fight card and his match will be broadcast live.

“I am feeling a little nervous but mostly I just want to get in there and fight.

“Someone is going down and it isn’t going to be me,” Coxen said.

“I am bringing the thunder the lightning and everything in between and Seabi is going down.”

The weigh-in for the fight will take place at Carnival City from 2pm on Friday and is open to the public with the main event kicking off on Saturday at 5.30pm.

Though Coxen is keeping focused on the fight at hand, he is also thinking of the future.

“People think that when you are an EFC fighter you make a lot of money but this really isn’t the case and, we as fighters, rely on sponsorship to help us keep fighting,” he explained.

If you are interested in sponsoring Coxen send an email to bqjudete@live.com or ferdinandbb@gmail.com.

“I try my best to give back to the community so with everything I am sponsored I make sure that a portion goes to helping the community,” Coxen explained.
