The Red Bin Brigade honours their word to Rest-A-While

The Red Bin Brigade donated much-needed groceries to Rest-A-While Service Centre for the Elderly through their Cansa Shavathon proceeds.

The Red Bin Brigade held a Cansa Shavathon earlier this year, in partnership with Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly who hosted a market day on the same day to raise funds for those affected by cancer.

On Friday, Hennie van der Merwe and two other members from the Red Bin Brigade, Terry van der Merwe and Sonje Wheeler, remained true to their word when they visited Rest-A-While to hand over groceries purchased with the proceeds generated on the day.

“We work with Rest-A-While, Remme-Los Independent Living Centre, Elandsvallei Home for the Aged, Prim Villa Frail Care, and El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and we ask what we can buy with the money donated instead of giving the homes physical cash.

“We’ve found that this helps them identify what they really need and we are able to provide that.

“Today’s handover was made possible by the raffle we ran at Rest-A-While, as well as the proceeds from the hot dogs and pancake stands,” said Hennie.

“We look forward to working with the Red Bin Brigade on future projects and we appreciate their ongoing support,” said Trudy Carreira, manager of Rest-A-While.
