In a continued effort to crack down on the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose, officers from the Primrose Police Station recently hosted an operation in the Marathon and Delport informal settlements.
During the operation six illegal taverns were closed down, six suspects aged between 22 and 39 years old arrested, and volumes of alcohol confiscated.

“Through foot patrols and stop-and-searches in each of the informal settlements, officers were able to discover the six illegal taverns,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
At each of the taverns the owner was asked for their valid liquor licence and if they were unable to produce one they were arrested and their establishment closed.

“We warn the community of Primrose that selling liquor without a valid licence is illegal.
“We will continue to conduct similar operations week in and week out until we win the war against the illegal sale of alcohol and gender-based violence in the informal settlements,” Maome said.
The arrested suspects were detained at the Primrose Police Station and were later released after they paid admission of guilt fines.
