WATCH as Germiston High’s u-15 rugby team gets into the winning spirit with a roaring haka

Germiston High School’s u-15 rugby team celebrate a top season and look forward to the matches ahead.

During a recent interview with Germiston High School principal Renée Goosen, she shared her and the school’s excitement that rugby had been reintroduced to the school.

“We reintroduced rugby to the school which the boys are really enjoying and we find the sport is helping to create a lot of school spirit,” she said.

The sport was reintroduced in 2016 but is celebrating its first full season this year, and the boys are not only enjoying the sport but are excelling on the field.

Germiston High School’s u-15 rugby team remains undefeated in this year’s school rugby season.

This is especially highlighted by the school’s u-15 team, coached by Jody De Matos, who remain undefeated in the school season thus far.

The team continued their winning streak when they played host to Westonaria High School, on Thursday.

After a roaring haka, which put their opponents on the back foot, Germiston took to the field ready for action.

The nail-biting match saw the home team put the first points on the scoreboard in the first half with a try from captain Atlehang Mokutsu, who also converted the try.

Westonaria fought back bravely and were able to inch past the Germiston defence to score a try seconds before half-time.

However, these would be the only points the visiting team was able to score in the match, as Germiston showed why they remain undefeated.

A second try for the team from Nathaniel Chinyole, which was converted by Mokutsu, sealed the team’s 14-7 win.

The coach’s and players’ passion were clearly on display from the first to the final whistle, with hopes that their winning streak will continue in future matches.
