Germiston South home goes up in flames

DEMS firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire recently.

Firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire on Angus Street in Germiston South, last Friday.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters from the Germiston Central Fire Station promptly responded to the house which was reported to be well alight.

The firefighting crews were backed-up by a team from the Boksburg Central Fire Station who responded with a water tanker and a major pumper.

“Upon arrival on the scene, the house was engulfed by flames, bulging out through the windows, door and part of the roof.

“Defensive firefighting was initiated and within no time the blaze was contained and extinguished,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“A sustained water supply was connected from a nearby fire hydrant until the scene was declared safe and done.”

No injuries or fatalities were recorded on the scene due to the fire.

“As per information received on the scene, spray painting was in progress in the yard and an electrical extension cable was connected from the house.

“Apparently that didn’t go well and a fire started in the dining room, spreading to the adjacent rooms and the house burnt.

“Intense damage was found in the dining room, kitchen and one of the three bedrooms.

“The rest of the rooms suffered smoke and water damage,” Ntladi said.

The actual cause of the fire is still undetermined and investigations are underway.
