Happy ending for stray dogs Holly and Willow

Stray dogs find their forever home after weeks on the streets.

It took many weeks but finally, Willow and Holly are safe and happy in a new home.

The pair roamed the streets of Germiston for seven weeks before they were finally captured by Taryn Bannister, a trainee inspector/cadet from the Germiston SPCA, and a dedicated group of volunteers headed up by Cathy Valente-Parkinson and Kaylene Pohlmann Ferreira.

Cathy told the GCN that Holly and Willow, who are both mixed breed females, moved between Primrose, Primrose Hill, Fishers’ Hill, Kensington, Bedfordview, Malvern East, Wychwood, and Dawnview.

Holly enjoys a welcome meal.

They were recently finally caught in Jupiter Road in Fishers’ Hill.

Taryn told the GCN how Cathy, Kaylene and their group set up feeding stations for the dogs – one in Price Road in Wychwood and one near the Primrose Hill reservoir.

“The dogs were originally seen in Association Road, Dawnview, and one of them still had a rope tied around her neck,” said Taryn.

“I went out one night for over two hours trying to catch them but they were too street smart.”

Taryn said she received calls on a daily basis regarding the dogs but they travelled a wide area and it was difficult to catch them.

“They travelled over main roads and were always together, they wouldn’t leave each other’s sides,” Taryn said.

“Willow was bumped by a car but luckily not too badly and Holly was pregnant.

Willow relaxes outside after being taken off the city’s streets.

“Thanks to the group, we finally managed to catch them when they were spotted on Jupiter Road.”

Taryn was notified of their whereabouts and luckily she was only two blocks away.

“I followed them and Holly went into an alcove where there were bushes and trees and we managed to capture her.

“As soon as we had her, Willow came running and allowed us to catch her – the capture turned out to be easy in the end,” said Taryn.

Willow gets a new home.

The pair was brought into the kennels where they were kept for a period of seven days before being sterilised and put up for adoption.

Taryn said one of them became ill with kennel cough and had to undergo treatment but was later given a clean bill of health.

Willow and Holly have since been rehomed together on a plot and are enjoying life with their new owners.
