Luso secures victory in final moments

Luso Africa FC continued their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League campaign with an away match against the Old Benonians Football Club.

Luso Africa FC played their second Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League away match, travelling to Benoni to face the Old Benonians Football Club, this weekend .

Luso was weary heading into the match after they were beat by Old Bens in the final match of the Top Eight Tournament and fresh from the disappointing draw against Germiston City Football Club.

However, the team walked away with a 2-1 victory after being the first team to put a point on the score board with an early goal from Leandro De Abreu.

The home team fought back but with some very good defending by Luso the visiting team was able to hold onto the lead going into half-time.

The second half started as the first had ended with Old Bens working hard to try break down the Luso defence and find the back of the net.

Just when it seemed they would never find an opening, Old Bens scored an equalised with just five minutes left on the clock.

However, it was Luso’s ‘never say die’ attitude that helped them clinch the win with a goal from Fulvio Pereira during in injury time.

Luso’s second team also recorded a win against their Old Bens opponents, winning their match 4-3.

The two team were pretty evenly match with each working hard to find any weakness in the others game plan.

Mario Ferreira opened the scoring for Luso, about 15 minutes into the first half, but the home team quickly responded scoring three goals in succession before the half time whistle blew.

The club were able to regroup during the break, deciding to make a couple changed as they looked to fight their way back into the game.

The changes seemed to be just what the doctor ordered and the visitors were able to score three goals before the final whistle ended the match.

Nuno De Sousa scored two of the second half’s goals with Dario Pereira added the fourth and finally goal, for what was an exceptional fight back and win for the team.

The teams will face Linhill Celtic Football Club in a home match this Saturday.
