Mixed results for Eagles

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club continued their Easterns Cricket League campaign with a win and a loss.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club took to the field in the Sunday Promotion League and Saturday Second League this weekend.

The club faced KwaThema Cricket Club in their Promotion League match at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

Winning the toss, the home team took to the crease first, setting a target of 286 for nine wickets in their 50 allotted overs.

The match’s top batsmen were Billy Millar with 77 runs, Phillip Crouse with 52 runs and Jacques Jansen van Vuuren with 50 runs.

The visitors then took their turn at the crease and were bowled out for just 116 runs.

This meant the Eagles celebrated a 170-run victory.

The day’s top bowlers were Darren van Tonder with two wickets in six overs for only 14 runs, Millar with two wickets in seven overs for 19 runs and Willie Steyn with two wickets in three overs for 12 runs.

In the Saturday Second League, the club faced the Nigel Cricket Club in a T20 match at the Elspark Sports Complex.

Nigel batted first and was able to knock up a total of 187 runs with six wickets in hand in their 20 overs.

The Eagles’ top bowlers were Millar with one wicket in four overs for 28 runs and Schalk Groenewald with one wicket in four overs for 29 runs.

The Eagles then took their turn at the crease and were only able to rack-up 163 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs, giving Nigel a 23-run victory.

The day’s top batsmen were Millar with 89 runs and Willie Steyn with 17 runs.

The club will next face Boksburg Cricket Club in the Sunday Promotion League in an away match, Vosloorus Cricket Club in the Sunday Executive League at home at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval in Dinwiddie and Eden Park Cricket Club in the Saturday Second League in a home match at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval in Dinwiddie.
