A new hygienic era for Germiston Taxi Rank

The metro, in partnership with hawkers and Germiston taxi associations, signed a pledge to keep the Germiston Taxi Rank clean.

A partnership between the metro, taxi associations and hawkers, marking a new hygienic era and an end to filthiness at the Germiston Taxi Rank was confirmed last Thursday in Germiston.

The three stakeholders signed a pledge to end the culture of illegal dumping, littering and vulnerability to unhygienic practices in the city.

Metro officials, together with members of taxi associations, and the hawkers signed a pledge to keep the Germiston Taxi Rank clean last Thursday.

“The Germiston Taxi Rank, with its close proximity to the railway line, thus boasting connectivity to the other major cities in the country, means scores of commuters travel through the taxi rank daily, thereby increasing the chances of uncontrolled dumping of waste and littering,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro.

The major clean up involving hawkers, metro officials and taxi associations will see the installation of skip bins to avoid illegal dumping.

“The sustainability of the partnership will also depend on the co-operation of the commuters,” Gadebe added.
