Eagles bat their way to victory

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club celebrated two wins in their Easterns Cricket League weekend fixtures.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club had a wonderful weekend, winning both of their Easterns Cricket League fixtures.

For their Sunday Promotion League match the club travelled to Alberton to face the Alberton Cricket Club.

Alberton batted first and set a target of 212 all out in their allotted 50 overs.

Garreth Hann was commended on his fantastic bowling during the match.

The Eagles then took to the crease and were able to knock up a total of 213 runs in just 28 overs for the loss of only two wickets.

This gave the club an eight-wicket win.

The day’s top batsmen were Renier Wiesenar with 103 not out and Phillip Crouse with 50 runs.

In their Sunday Executive League match the club faced Bakerton YS Cricket Club at the Bakerton Sports Stadium.

The home team took to the pitch first and were quickly bowled out for just 55 runs.

The day’s top bowlers were Andries van der Linde with four wickets for 17 runs in four overs, Darren van Tonder with two wickets for 15 runs in six overs, and Theuns Herbst with two wickets for 19 runs in four overs.

The Eagles then went in to bat and took just five overs to reach the victory target of 56 runs with seven wickets in hand.

The match’s top batsmen were Johan van Greeunen with 32 not out and Pieter Nel with 11 not out.

The club will next face Daveyton Cricket Club in the Sunday Promotion League at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval in Dinwiddie, and Germiston Cricket Club in the Sunday Executive League at the Elspark Sports Complex.

They will also travel to Eden Park to face the Eden Park Cricket Club in a Saturday Second League match.
