Athletes run, swim and cycle their way through Trinity Sports triathlon

Athletes young and old, from beginners to pros, tested their skills at the Trinity Sports triathlon, this Sunday.

Dazzling sunshine shone off Germiston Lake on Sunday as athletes, young and old, tackled the Trinity Sports triathlon and duathlon.

The race was the second in the three-part series and also formed part of the Central Gauteng Triathlon (CGT) Championships.

The series offers athletes – from beginners to professionals of all ages – a chance to race and is used as a selection tool for the CGT Triathlon provincial team.

Sunday’s event was split into four age divisions, namely young ones (eight to nine years old), children (10 to 11 years old), juniors (12 to 19 years old) and seniors (20 years and older), and has both standard and sprint distances.

Trinity Sports triathlons and duathlons split into four age divisions, namely young ones (eight to nine years old), children (10 to 11 years old), juniors (12 to 19 years old) and seniors (20 years and older). Here one of the young competitors exits the water and heads for the bicycle dock.

The standard triathlon began in the water with a swim of 1.5km before athletes hit the streets of Germiston for a 40km cycle route and 10km run.

The men competing in the Trinity Sports standard triathlon enter Germiston Lake and prepare for their water start.

Bryan Difford was the overall winner in a time of two hours, one minute and 23 seconds.

He was closely followed over the finish line by Matthew Greer who finished in a time of two hours, two minutes and 14 seconds, with Haydn Corke rounding off the podium positions in a time of two hours, six minutes and 56 seconds.
