Young angler nets place in team

Hazeldene angler showcases her talent.

After months of preparation young angling sensation Sylvie Richards (11) from Hazeldene competed in the Junior National Angling Championship during December, last year.

All the early morning practices and long days at the dam competing in various competitions paid off as she made her mark in the competition.

The event took place at Verlaten Kraal at Bloemhof Dam and Sylvie competed in the u-19 category, representing the province of Central North West (Sentraal Noordwes).

The Central North West province secured a fourth position overall at the championships, but Sylvie’s performance secured her and invitation to the 2017 Junior National Angling Trials which took place on December 15 and 16 at Sloep at Bloemhof Dam.

“After battling the waters at Sloep for two days in the national trials, the good news came shortly after Christmas that Sylvie had been selected for the SAFBAF junior u-13 young girls team, for participation in the SAFBAF Junior Inland Tournament in October 2018,” said ecstatic mom, Georgia.

Sylvie Richards (11) from Hazeldene recently competed in the Junior National Angling Championship at Verlaten Kraal at Bloemhof Dam. She enjoyed the experience immensely.

“This being Sylvie’s first experience at the Junior National Angling Championship and National Trials, she has come out the other side more matured as an angler.

“The experience has opened doors to an advanced level of angling, broadening her horizons in that arena.”

Phillip (her father) and Georgia are extremely proud of her and are delighted to see all their hard work and support paying off.

“We are all – family, friends and proud parents – looking forward to this new chapter in Sylvie’s angling career, where we are certain that the exposure and knowledge she gathers will take her to the top,” said Georgia.

“We take this opportunity to thank the South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation and everyone involved for putting such a platform in place for our children to express their talents, the North West province for hosting the 2017 championships and James Lang, as well as his senior anglers’ team, namely Pieter Greyling, Yaseen Surtee and Charle Coelett of the Central North West province for all the coaching and support they made available upfront to Sylvie and the young anglers in the team.”
