St Catherine’s class of 2017 makes history

St Catherine’s School dux scholar, Motlailana Mathaba, achieves 6 distinctions in IEB examinations.

The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results were released at midnight, on Wednesday.

Many private school learners waited in anticipation to find out if they had passed their final exams, and the learners of Parkhill Gardens’ St Catherine’s School were no exception.

The school was proud to announce that the matric class of 2017 had continued the school’s tradition and achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.

The school had 27 matric learners sit the exam.

Twenty-five candidates, or 93 per cent of the students, achieved a degree pass, which will allow them to continue their studies at a university of their choice.

This is the highest percentage of university exemption passes ever achieved by a Grade 12 class, and the school is thrilled.

Twenty-two of the learners gained one or more distinction, which translates to more than 80 per cent of candidates achieving at least one distinction for their hard work.

The school’s 2017 dux scholar, Motlailana Mathaba, lived up to all expectations in the recent examinations and achieved no fewer than six distinctions for mathematics, physical science, life science, accounting, isiZulu and life orientation.
