Dog mutilated and skinned, SPCA offers reward to find perpetrators

The Germiston SPCA’s trainee inspector, Taryn Bannister, made a horrifying discovery while on her way to collect some dogs, recently. Bannister was driving past the Marathon informal settlement when she saw a group of people surrounding what appeared to be a dog. She decided to investigate and found a cross-breed Africanus dog with one side of its body completely skinned and the organs hanging outside the body.

Man and woman arrested for money laundering

Officers from the Germiston Police Station got more than they bargained for when they pulled over a suspicious looking vehicle in Lambton, recently. “The officers were patrolling the Lambton area when they noticed a suspicious looking vehicle,” explained Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS. Officers searched the vehicle and its 37-year-old male and 34-year-old female occupants and were surprised to find official Home Affairs documents, asylum documents, 34 ID books and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Water will be off in some Germiston areas from Saturday evening

The metro warned of a scheduled water shutdown last Saturday, which affected parts of Germiston and Boksburg from 6pm in the evening to 6am the next day.

Final exam with a difference

Matrics across the country began their final exams recently. But for Caitlin Sehannie, a matric learner at Edenglen High School, things were a little different. The Grade 12 student had to write her final Afrikaans paper in a hospital bed at the Life Roseacres Hospital.

Beware of flakka, the ‘zombie drug’

A highly dangerous yet relatively cheap drug has reportedly reared its ugly head in South Africa. Flakka is a chemical compound originally synthesised in the 1960s. It is known as next generation “bath salts”, a group of related synthetic drugs that was banned in 2012.
