Man arrested when police discover hijacking case is fake

Germiston hope arrest will serve as a warning to the community not to open false cases.

After a night out on the town recently a 34-year-man came to the Germiston Police Station to report that he had been hijacked.

“The man told officers that he had been out in the Germiston CBD when he was hijacked,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

Police began to investigate the case and discovered that the man had not been hijacked.

“It is reported that the man had too much to drink and had forgotten where his vehicle was.

“He was arrested for perjury,” explained Raphulu.

The Germiston police hope that the arrest will serve as a warning to the community not to open false cases.

“Opening a false case is a criminal case,” Raphulu said.

The accused will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
