Men allegedly steal batteries from water tower

Police arrest man for alleged theft, while three suspects remain at large.

The Primrose police arrested a 31-year-old man, last Sunday, on a charge of theft.

It is alleged that the man was one of four who stole four 12 volt back-up batteries from the water tower in Homestead.

Police were first alerted to the crime when a complainant came to the Primrose Police Station to report the matter.

“The man told officers that he had heard the alarm at the water tower and went to see what was wrong.

“Upon his arrival, he noticed that the perimeter gate’s padlock had been broken and the batteries were missing,” said communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

An eyewitness later reported seeing four men loading the batteries into a white Ford Bantam bakkie.

After following several leads police were able to arrest one of the four men reportedly involved in the crime.

The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for plea and trial.

Police have launched a manhunt to find the remaining men.
