Local athletes do well in annual Laingsburg Karoo Ultra Marathon

Bheki Hlatshwayo and Rebecca Zandamela from Germiston Callies Harriers after competing in the Laingsburg Karoo Ultra Marathon recently.

Athletes from Germiston Callies Harriers recently competed in the annual Laingsburg Karoo Ultra Marathon, held in Laingsburg, in the Western Cape.

Zwelithini Vaphi, Emmanuel Mavunda, Bheki Hlatshwayo, Watson Matlou, Mahlomola Mothibi, Siziwe Ntshebe and Rebecca Zandamela all took part in the 80km marathon.

The club sponsored the trip and committee member Victor Mhlakaza drove down with the athletes to support them on the tough route.

Their results were as follows: Mavunda (fourth in a time of 06:17:28); Vaphi (fifth in a time of 06:17:30); Mothibi (eighth in a time of 06:38:180); Hlatshwayo (11th in a time of 07:09:41); Matlou (12th in a time of 07:16:01); Ntshebe (26th in a time of 08:34:39) and Zandamela (27th in a time of 08:42:35).
