Show you care for charity by supporting race

The new Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race is set to take place soon.

Gear up and get your cleats on – it’s almost time for the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic.

This ever popular event is the same format as last year, starting with an MTB race on October 28 followed by the usual road race on October 29.

The event will be held three weeks before the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge.

The Carnival City Macsteel National Classic is a Cycling South Africa sanctioned event which attracts thousands of entries every year.

It is also a seeding event for the 2018 Cape Cycle Tour.

This year is the 34th edition of the event and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The new Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic comprises a 60km and 34km mountain bike race, as well as two short mountain bike races of 12km and 6km and children’s mountain bike races of 3km and 1km.

The elite and u-23 men, juniors and licensed vets (VA, VB and VC) will race over 125km (road race).

The customary route for the 103km and 65km road races will remain.

Race organisers receive no financial benefit from this event and all proceeds will go to Germiston Rotary community projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers charity projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

Both events start and finish at Carnival City, where there is plenty of secure parking, a welcome selection of restaurants and fast food outlets and activities for children.

“We are excited to once again support and play host to the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race.

“This is a popular event in the cycling community and it is fantastic to see how support for the race grows each year.

“If you haven’t entered the race, bring your family down to Carnival City to watch the cyclists cross the finish line,” said Carnival City’s marketing manager Michelle Smith.
