Music to make you happy

Germiston’s JK Music wants to bring new flavour to the SA music scene.

She has loved music since she was a young girl and always wanted to pursue it as a career.

This is Marlands resident Maresciay Kellyann Daniel (34), also known as KelStar.

And she and her producer John Tyron (JT) Smith, from Wychwood, are out to make music which makes people happy.

JT said their brand, JK Music, is set to bring a new flavour to the South African music scene.

“We are bringing joy back to music,” he said.

KelStar has lived in Marlands for 16 years and has been married to Rafael for 14 years.

“I am her biggest fan and help her by marketing, promoting, managing and distributing her music,” Rafael said.

“I am always by her side to keep her going.”

Originally from Vryheid in northern KwaZulu-Natal, KelStar moved to Johannesburg when she was six years old.

She then later returned to northern KwaZulu-Natal with her mother Desireé Louw, where she matriculated from Dundee High School, before being called back by the bright lights of Johannesburg.

“I have always been interested in music,” she said.

“My father, Ronnie Naidoo, was a wedding singer and I used to go around with him.

“As I grew up I was inspired by JT who was a DJ working the clubs and my love for music grew.”

Upon her return to Johannesburg after matric she started her music again.

She was featured on several artists’ songs, including Ama Poisa with Sean Burke (South Africa) and Got It with Bruno Bagi.

However, her big break did not come and she stopped the music and worked for an online gambling company for a number of years.

“I then met up with JT at a club in Johannesburg and I performed a few songs.

“After that we kept bumping into each other and we decided to start our brand,” KelStar said.

JT was born and bred in Jeppe and matriculated in Reiger Park.

“Ever since leaving school I have been a DJ, so that’s about 30 years now,” he said.

He has worked at nightclubs throughout Johannesburg and also ran his own mobile DJ service.

He has also been producing music for a long time and he and KelStar are excited about the music they are creating.

They have released a single, The Sauce, and are soon to release another one called Live My Life.

“So far I love both singles,” said KelStar.

“It is really good working with JT.”

The first single is available on iTunes and the second will be soon.
