Child airlifted to hospital after Homestead accident

A six-year-old child is in a serious condition after the car he was playing in ran over him.

Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious pedestrian collision, involving a child, in the driveway of a residence off Barbara Road (M39) in the Homestead area, at approximately 6pm on Saturday evening.

“Reports from the scene allege that the six-year-old boy was playing in a parked vehicle in the driveway and managed to release the park brake.

“When he got out of the vehicle, it started to move down the gradient and ran over him.

“The incident still needs to be investigated,” said Nick Dollman, media liaison for Netcare Limited.

Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedics attended to the child who had sustained very serious injuries and analgesic medication was administered to manage his pain.

Due to the extent of his injuries, the Netcare 911 specialised helicopter ambulance was called to the scene and airlifted the child to a trauma unit for the urgent medical care that he required.
