Celebrating 50 years in style

Young girls at Dinwiddie Primary School had a blast bonding with their mothers at a Mother and Daughter Tea Party.

The guests at Dinwiddie Primary School’s recent Mother and Daughter Tea Party, held at the school, dressed to the nines.

“This was one of the events held in celebration of the school’s 50th birthday,” said the department head of guidance, Jennifer Kingsley.

“This event was aimed at celebrating the girls and their mothers, which ties in well with Women’s Month.”

Former student of the school Yingesani Nyambi was the guest speaker for the day and she encouraged the audience always to set goals in life.

“If you set goals and commit to achieving them you will be headed for success,” said Yingesani.

Raffles and lucky draws, and two stalls selling jewellery and sweet treats were among the activities on the day.

“It was amazing to see the confidence grow in the children as they took part in the day’s activities and the mothers were proud of their daughters,” said Jennifer.

“Thank you to the teachers who came together and worked hard to make all this happen.”

Lethabo (11) and Innocentia Moloto were happy to have attended the event.

“It was very nice to bond with our daughters; such events must be held more often as they inspire our daughters to succeed in life,” said Innocentia.

“It was lovely; it was also nice to show off our pretty clothes to our friends,” said Lethabo.

It was all smiles and laughter as mothers and daughters networked.

Jennifer, who has been with the school for 36 years, said the school might host more events to continue their 50th anniversary celebration.

“We are looking to have a movie night and a gala dinner later in the year,” said Jennifer.

“With all the years I have been at the school, I can say that it is a good school.

“We value all of our students and we aim to create individuals who will be responsible and ready to cope in the world.

“We have an open-door communication with the parents and going forward we look forward to maintaining the high standard.”
