Man arrested for possession of firearm, dangerous weapon

The Primrose SAPS arrested a man recently after he was acting suspiciously in a street where robberies are on the increase.

A 30-year-old man was recently arrested by the Primrose police for possession of a firearm and a dangerous weapon.

The arrest took place in the evening on Pretoria Road, in Primrose, after patrolling officers noticed the man acting suspiciously.

“They stopped their vehicle, introduced themselves as police officers, and asked to search him,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“However, before they could search him, the man started running away and the officers gave chase, finally cornering him.

“When they searched him they found a toy gun, which could easily be mistaken for a real gun, and a big knife in his possession.”

The police members questioned him about the items and asked him why he was carrying them.

When he could not give a satisfactory answer to the police, he was arrested.

“We have received a lot of robbery complaints in Pretoria Road, especially at night,” said Maome.

The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and his case was postponed for plea and trial.
