The top five stories on www.germistoncitynews.co.za for the week, July 22 to 28, were:

1. ALERT: Emergency water supply interruption from noon in parts of Germiston

A team of metro technicians installed a diesel generator at the Windsor Pump Station in Sunnyridge on July 21. This led to water interruptions in several areas from noon until 4pm. The metro apologised for the inconvenience.

2. Guns, ammo found in speeding Golf on N3 highway in Germiston

Noticing a VW Golf travelling at high speed on the N3 highway in the direction of Germiston in the early hours of the morning recently, Germiston Flying Squad members gave chase. The officers, WO Steven Ramollo and Const Steven Malungete, managed to get the driver of the vehicle to stop near the Grey Avenue off-ramp at about 1.15am. “They found three firearms, an AK47, an R5 and a Z88 pistol hidden inside the boot where the spare wheel should have been,” said Capt André de Jager, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni West SAPS cluster.

3. WhatsApp users urged to look out for scam

In light of a new scam doing the rounds, WhatsApp users are urged to be vigilant when communicating with loved ones, and to set up security questions to avoid falling victim. Posing as loved ones of their victims, scammers appear to give plausible reasons for contacting their mothers, sisters or daughters from an unknown number before attempting to coax them into sending them money

4. Breaking News: Two elderly women murdered in Lambton

The Gauteng SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Deliwe de Lange recently expressed her shock at the ruthless murder of two elderly women (a mother and her daughter), aged 70 and 91, at a house in Webber Road, Lambton.
