One win one loss for Germiston

Germiston City Football Club went up against Highlands Park Football Club during the ELFA Super League fixtures.

The chilly breeze last Thursday evening didn’t deter Germiston City Football Club’s first and reserve sides from playing against Highlands Park Football Club.

The teams continued their struggle to move to better standings on the ELFA Super League log.

Germiston’s reserves had a fair start but were rattled by Highlands Park’s first goal in the first half.

Although they beefed up their defence, they also couldn’t get past Highlands’ defence and gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at half-time.

An equaliser by Germiston minutes into the second half gave them hope for a win.

“The boys were playing well, but they lost focus after their equaliser,” said the reserve side’s coach, Toni Kazeem.

“We had more chances but failed to deliver.”

Germiston failed to progress to a lead but it was a different story for Highlands who netted three more goals ending the fixture with a 4-1 score.

The first team had a more pleasant evening than the reserve side.

Germiston’s first team dominated the entire first half and proved their dominance with a 1-0 lead into half-time.

“The second half was more challenging and the boys had to up their game to ensure they remain on the winning side,” said Germiston’s first team coach Sreten Pavlovic.

“We could have scored more goals but Highlands’ defence was a bit tough.”

Pavlovic said they managed to make their way past Highlands’ strong defence.

“We managed to score another goal, which was a hard fought one,” said Pavlovic.

“Highlands were awarded a penalty 10 minutes before the end of the fixture but they couldn’t score a consolation goal.”

Germiston claimed victory with a 2-0 score.
