Suspect captured…finally

Primrose police arrested a suspect in the Marathon informal settlement on three different charges.

Primrose police arrested a suspect on charges of business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition and attempted murder in the Marathon informal settlement, recently.

This was after the police responded to a complaint of business robbery.

Upon their arrival on the scene, police were informed, by the business owner, that he had been robbed by four men.

The victim described what the suspects were wearing and that they were on foot.

Police officers patrolled the area and spotted the suspects on a nearby street corner.

“The suspects saw the police vehicle and ran in different directions,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“Police chased the suspects with the help of community members and one of the suspects locked himself in a mobile toilet.

“It was difficult for the police to open the toilet as it was locked and they had to request more manpower.

“The suspect then came out of the toilet and began shooting randomly,” said Maome.

“One of the bullets hit a man in the leg.

“When the suspect realised this, he started running again, throwing the firearm into a pile of rubbish before entering an open shack.”

Maome said that a woman came out and told the officers a stranger had entered her shack

“Police surrounded the shack and instructed the man to come out which he did, crawling and begging police not to shoot him.”

He was arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station.

Station commander Col Albertina Vesi thanked the Marathon community for helping the police bring the suspect to book.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
