Ekurhuleni’s firefighters take on Comrades Marathon

DEMS firefighters showcased their running prowess in this year’s Comrades Marathon.

Nine of Ekurhuleni’s firefighters took to the road in this year’s installment of the toughest ultra-marathon race, the Comrades Marathon.

The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters are members of the City of Ekurhuleni Athletics Club.

Eight male firefighters and one female firefighter qualified for this year’s race by participating in various qualifying marathons around the country.

The rose among them being Enie Manzine, based at the Palm Ridge Fire Station, was running her ninth Comrades Marathon.

Six others completed the race and received their hard-earned medals.

“The department extends its sincere appreciation to the staff members showing an interest in participating in all sporting codes, moreover the Comrades Marathon, without compromising their responsibilities of preserving life and property within Ekurhuleni,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.
