Action-packed football leaves first team out of cup

First team loss, reserve team win for Germiston City.

Germiston City Football Club were drawn against local rivals Olympia in the first round of the Super League Cup.

The cup is a knock-out cup where the winning team advances to the next round.

Germiston, still without a number of players, took on an in-form Olympia side.

Germiston started the game well with a few good chances and some attractive football.

An unfortunate handball by Comfort Molebela in the penalty area saw Olympia score from the spot.

From this point Germiston could not get back into the game and by half time were 0-4 down.

The second half saw Olympia ease and Germiston had a few opportunities with Dikledi Kigare hitting the crossbar.

Try as they could Germiston couldn’t find the back of the Olympia net.

With ten minutes to go and the score still 0-4 Germiston kept on pressing forward leaving themselves exposed at the back.

Olympia scored two more goals and an own goal for Germiston, to win the game 1-6.

The reserve side fared better in an exciting game where Germiston were 0-2 down with five minutes gone.

The side came back and at the end of full-time the scores were level at 3-3.

Olympia drew first blood in the first period of extra time to go ahead 3-4.

Within two minutes the home side equalised and in the last five minutes scored the winning goal to advance to the next round 5-4.
