Luso dominate ELFA fixture

Luso Africa FC’s senior sides continue their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League campaign with one win and one loss.

The Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League is heating up and Luso Africa FC is giving it their all.

On Thursday, May 25, the club’s senior teams travelled to Balfour to face Highlands Park Football Club.

Despite Luso’s first team going down 1-0 early in the match, due to some poor communication between the goalkeeper and defenders, Luso took charge of the game and produced a dominant display.

Fulvio Pereira scored the first goal for the team with a fine strike, which the Highlands goalkeeper just couldn’t defend against.

This left the teams level at 1-1 heading into the change rooms at half-time.

The second half saw Luso continue to dominate on the field, keeping the home team’s goalkeeper under pressure.

He, however, rose to the occasion making several fine saves.

It took a piece of magic from Chagan Kruger for Luso to score their second goal of the match, and the third, and final goal, came courtesy of Marco Cabeleira, securing a 3-1 victory for Luso.

“It was a great result which was well deserved after a great team performance,” said Dylan Willson, on behalf of the club.

Luso’s reserve team was, however, not as lucky, losing their match 2-0.

This was another blow, in what has been described as a bad run of results for the team, after going so long without being defeated.

Luso’s confidence was shaken early after an own goal put Highlands 1-0 ahead.

The team had few chances to equalise as the match progressed and with only five minutes on the clock Highlands scored their second goal of the match, cementing their victory.

The club will next face Corinthians Football Club in a home match, at Hattingh Park, on Saturday afternoon.

Kick-off for the first team is at 3.30pm.

Other results:

  • Luso’s SAB team took on Ekhurhuleni City in Nigel, recently, unfortunately the team went down 2-1.
  • Luso’s women’s team took part in the SAFA Ekurhuleni Women’s League.

The team faced Mighty Lovers, winning the match up 2-1.
