Successful away match for Germiston Simmer

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club continued their Golden Lions Rugby Union Pirates Grand Challenge this weekend.

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club travelled to Soweto this Saturday to take on the Soweto Eagles in their next Golden Lions Rugby Union Pirates Grand Challenge.

Though kick off was late, the first teams’ match started with a bang, with Simmer not holding back.

The club had ran in an impressive 10 tries before the final whistle blew.

Simmer’s tries were scored by left wing Eric de Beer, lock Morne van der Vyver, fullback Quinton Norris, outside centre Shane Pretorius, flyhalf Wentzel Niemand, scrumhalf Dario Bezuidenhout and inside centre Anton Coetzee.

In addition to scoring a try, Coetzee also successfully secured five conversions.

Other results:

  • Simmer’s second senior team were awarded the points for their match against their Soweto rivals, as the team arrived late.

The referee, however, agreed to officiate a short friendly match where Simmer won 10-0.

The match provided valuable game time for the second team.

  • The Germiston Simmer’s u-21 side travelled well, winning their match 41-15 against Soweto.
  • Simmer’s u-19 side defeated their Soweto Eagles opponents 32-31.

“We are pleased with not only the wins but with the fact that we travelled well and put four teams on the field,” said Ryan Dennis, on behalf of the club.

Germiston Simmer’s last home match, in the first round of fixtures, will be played at the Germiston Stadium, on Saturday, May 27.

The club will take on Union Rugby Club and the community is once again encouraged to come and show their support.
