Victim identifies attacker before being rushed to hospital

A 53-year old man was arrested by the Primrose police for allegedly assaulting his neighbour.

While patrolling a recent Makause informal settlement, community imbizo officers from the Primrose Police Station were approached by two women.

The women alleged that a 53-year-old man had attacked his neighbour with a wooden pick handle.

“The witnesses told officers that the man had hit the victim on the head and he had collapsed.

“They further alleged that the man had continued to beat the man while he lay on the ground,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

Police rushed to the scene and found the victim lying on the ground struggling to breathe. An ambulance was summoned.

“While waiting for the ambulance, the victim opened his eyes and was able to point out his attacker to the officers on scene,” said Maome.

The man was arrested, while the victim was rushed to the Bertha Gxowa Hospital.

The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
