Top class yearlings from Drakenstein Stud on offer

Drakenstein Stud will be showcasing potential future champions.

Drakenstein Stud, home to South Africa’s reigning champion sire Trippi, will be offering a top class draft of 17 (and four lots as agent) yearlings at this year’s National Yearling Sale, which takes place at the TBA complex in Gosforth Park from May 3 to 5.

First of the Drakenstein Stud draft to come through the sales ring is lot 24, a filly by Philanthropist (whose two-year-old Pack Leader made an impressive winning debut recently), out of Jet Master’s G1 Empress Club Stakes winning daughter Little Miss Magic.

This is the family of star fillies Bilateral, State Treasure and champion Tara’s Touch – to name a few.

Second of the draft on offer is lot 70, a colt by the farm’s Cartier Champion and classic sire, Duke Of Marmalade.

This colt, whose dam is a G3 winning half-sister to triple G1 winner Smart Banker, is a half-brother to five winners including G2 Colorado King Stakes winner Halve The Deficit.

Another half-brother Silver Coin, a former R6 000 000 buy, recently made a winning debut and he holds an entry in the Listed Somerset 1 200 due to be run at Kenilworth soon.

This is a truly great family responsible for, among others, the champions Minding and Vaguely Noble.

Five time G1 winner Duke Of Marmalade is also the sire of lot 151, a colt out of multiple G2 winner Sangria Girl.

This colt is closely inbred to the great broodmare Lassie Dear.

Jet Master’s G2 winning son Master Of My Fate (whose relatives include Breeders’ Cup winner Pluck) is responsible for lot 152 –a bay half-brother to the stakes placed winner of four San Trip.

This colt is out of a classic placed daughter of Fort Wood, and he is bred on a similar cross to multiple G1 winner Thunder Dance.

Danehill’s champion son Duke Of Marmalade is responsible for lot 157, a bay colt out of Var’s G1 daughter Schiffer.

Herself a lightning fast stakes winner, Schiffer is a full sister to G2 two-year-old and Dubai winner Mastermind, and this colt’s second dam is a half-sister to graded winners Mentor and Royal IQ.

Champion sire Silvano, sire of recent G1 winners Orchid Island and Nightingale, is the sire of lot 177, a chestnut colt by the name of Arrows Of Desire.

Bred on a similar cross to champions Bold Silvano and Kings Gambit, this colt is out of a G3 placed half-sister to the dam of Triple Crown winning sire Louis The King and he is a direct descendant of Pretty Polly.

Var, the sire of champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa, is the sire of lot 224 –a bay colt out of Captain Al’s G1 Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Tick Tock –a sister to stakes winning two-year-old Red Disa.

His second dam is by Elliodor – broodmare sire of Var’s champion Val De Ra.

Mambo In Seattle, the sire of dual G1 winner Same Jurisdiction, is responsible for lot 231 – a colt whose stakes placed dam (by champion sire and top class broodmare sire Trippi) is an own sister to Derby winner and Dubai scorer Liquid Mercury.

The family of European champions Mark Of Esteem and Mashaallah among others.

Promising sire Philanthropist (whose first local crop includes six stakes horses) is the sire of lot 259, a bay colt with a stallion’s pedigree.

Out of a stakes placed daughter of champion sire Western Winter, he is from the immediate family as world leading sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac, as well as dual G1 winning two-year-old and Coolmore sire Pride Of Dubai.

Chouette is the name of lot 312, a filly by Duke Of Marmalade out of a winning daughter of Trippi.

This regally bred filly’s second dam is a four time winning own sister to exported G1 SA Guineas winner Heir Apparent and G3 winner Quickwood, with the latter being responsible for this season’s G1 winning filly Nightingale.

Another by five-time G1 winner Duke Of Marmalade, who is a half-brother to an Investec Derby winner, is lot 231 – a bay half-brother to six winners including two stakes horses (one of whom produced G3 performer Impala Lily).

This colt, bred on the same cross as classic winner and champion Simple Verse, is out of a half-sister to French Oaks winner Bright Sky – whose daughter Bengala won on debut and finished third in a feature next time out. Bengala holds an entry in the G1 Investec Oaks.

Duke Of Swing, lot 323, is one of the best bred colts on the sale.

By champion Duke Of Marmalade, this half-brother to the smart G3 performer Baritone is out of a G3 winning Singspiel half-sister to undefeated G1 Pacific Classic winner and outstanding sire Candy Ride, whose offspring include such G1 winners as Shared Belief, Mastery, Twirling Candy, Sidney’s Candy and Misremembered.

Triple G1 winner and proven G1 sire Oratorio is the sire of lot 329 – a half-sister to recent two-year-old winner and Listed Somerset 1200m entrant Speedpoint.

This filly (bred like G1 winner Beethoven) is out of a G3 winning sister to July winning champion Big City Life.

King Of The Sky is a son of champion sire Silvano and the stakes placed mare East Breaks – a half-sister to the dam of Trippi sired US G1 winner R Heat Lightning.

This colt, who sports a true stallion’s pedigree, is from the family of international G1 winners Poet’s Voice, Versailles Treaty and Dance To Bristol as well as dual US champion Exclusive Native.

Horse of the Year and outstanding international sire Rock Of Gibraltar (whose local runners include the G1 winners Seventh Rock, Europa Point and Alboran Sea), is responsible for lot 396 – a chestnut colt whose dam is a half-sister to British G3 winner Green Destiny.

The family of champions and top sires Rainbow Quest and Warning, as well as Epsom Derby winner Commander In Chief.

Leading sire Dynasty, sire of recent top class performers Barrack Street, Smiling Blue Eyes and Just Sensual, is responsible for Stalking (Lot 435).

This colt is out of Jet Master’s G2 winning daughter Hawker Hunter.

Triple Equus Champion and Leading First Crop Sire What A Winter is the sire of Autumn Smoke.

This chestnut colt (Lot 464) is out of a winning Giant’s Causeway half-sister to a stakes performer, from the family of major international G1 winners Byword, Proviso, Continent, and US champion Wandesta.

Master Of My Fate is the sire of lot 3, a colt out of a stakes placed daughter of stakes winner La Poste. This is the family of champion Mark Anthony and G1 winner Swan Prince.

Champion and sire of four European classic winners, Duke Of Marmalade is the sire of lot 129.

This filly is a half-sister to four winners, including feature race contender Anime, and she is out of Fillies Guineas winner Rei Rei. T

his filly is bred on a similar cross to Duke Of Marmalade’s top class daughters Simple Verse and Venus De Milo.

Duke Of Marmalade is also sire of lot 270 (also bred like Simple Verse) – a colt out of a winning half-sister to three stakes horses including G2 winner and G1 Summer Cup runner up Deo Juvente.

His second dam is a champion half-sister to 2 G1 winners, including Met winner Zebra Crossing.

Philanthropist, sire of champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, is the sire of lot 482 – a half-sister to two winners, including stakes winner Silver Bluff.

Her dam is an own sister to 11 time stakes winner and Derby hero Key Castle and half-sister to G1 winner Major Bluff.

This is the family of champions Circle Of Life, Bluffing and Tecla Bluff.
