Is this the next Legal Eagle on offer at the 2017 National Yearling Sale?

Top yearlings to go under the hammer.

One of South Africa’s top thoroughbred nurseries, Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm has sold many top class performers off the National Yearling Sale.

None has been better, however, than South Africa’s reigning Horse of the Year Legal Eagle, who was knocked down for R425 000 at the 2013 national sale.

This has proven a great bargain buy, with Legal Eagle having gone on to earn more than R8 600 000 in prize money, with the champion having scored yet another major victory when he lead all the way to win the G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes on Classic Day at Turffontein, recently.

Owned by Mayfair Speculators, and trained by Sean Tarry, Legal Eagle (a triple Equus Award winner) has now won 10 of 17 outings, with no fewer than six of his wins having come at G1 level.

Avontuur will offer 10 quality lots at this year’s National Yearling Sale, due to take place in Germiston from May 3 to 5.

Their draft includes yearlings by such top sires as Dynasty, Oratorio and Var.
