Elsburg Rugby Club ready to tackle new season

The new rugby season has kicked off for the Elsburg Rugby Club and they are ready for the challenges that lie ahead.

The weather is turning cold, which means it’s time for rugby players to lace-up their boots and prepare for the new season.

Germiston’s Elsburg Rugby Club started its Kestrel League, which forms part of the Valke Rugby Union, earlier this month (April) and played their first home match, last Saturday afternoon.

The Valke Rugby Union is made up of several different clubs from across Gauteng.

The club, whose members train every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm, play their home matches at the Elspark Sports Grounds, which can be found at the corner of Egret and Heidelberg roads in Elspark. Kick-off is at 4pm.

“This year we hope to reach the finals,” said club secretary, Lesley Jackson.

“We have had an influx of new players, we have a new club house and a great spirit among the players.

“So we are ready to tackle the new season.”

The club encourages the community to get involved and come and support home matches, the next of which will be played on May 6 against Vanderbijlpark Rugby Club.

For more information on the club, or if you are interested in joining the club, call Jackson on 082 826 2159.
