Monkeyfinger adds some heavy metal to the mix

If you are a fan of heavy metal, don’t miss BenRock with Monkeyfinger bringing you SA heavy metal at its best.

One of the founding bands of BenRock, Monkeyfinger is a four-piece heavy metal band based in Benoni.

Started more than 10 years ago, the band comprises some seasoned campaigners from the South African metal scene from as far back as the 1990s.

The band is driven by a passion for local musical talent.

Over the years the line-up has changed and even though the debate rages on as to who started the band, the current line-up are four guys who were all there from the beginning.

Craig Mc Nelis, on vocals, hails from somewhere along the coast.

Craig moved up to Joburg as a young child specifically to share his unique vocals and to start the band Monkeyfinger.

Marc Gardiner, on guitar, was born somewhere in the Cape.

Marc’s parents moved him to the East Rand at a young age specifically to play guitar and to start Monkeyfinger.

Derek Newman, on bass, wasn’t born in South Africa.

Actually, there’s uncertainty as to whether he’s even from this planet. No-one seems sure why he is even here.

Justin Robb completes the rhythm section on drums and is originally from Rosettenville or Klerksdorp, or both.

Justin drove around aimlessly for some time due to there being no GPS in the 1990s. He eventually arrived in Benoni with the intention of starting… you guessed it… Monkeyfinger.
