Germiston ends season on a high note

After an exceptional season, the Germiston City Cricket Club celebrated its players’ accomplishments during a fun-filled prize-giving.

After a successful 2016/2017 Easterns Cricket League season, Germiston City Cricket Club celebrated it’s achievements with a prize-giving.

The fun-filled prize-giving, held at the Germiston Sports Grounds, last Saturday, saw the club’s players being commended for their exceptional performance during the season.

“According to our calculations, without final confirmation from Easterns Cricket Union, it looks like we won the Saturday Fourth League, six league points above the rest,” said David Ungerer proudly as he opened proceedings.

Team captain Rudolph Swart was then called upon to hand out a number of special awards, including top bowling averages, top fieldsmen for the season, top bowlers of the season, top batsmen of the season and player of the year.

The awards were as follows:

  • Top bowling average of the season: Johann Botha, Rudee Aucamp, Rudi le Roux, Anton van der Linde, David Ungerer and Tyrel Hendricks.
  • Top fielders of the season: Donald Cekiso and Jason Parsons.
  • Top batsmen of the season: Jan Aucamp, Jan van Wyk and Jacques Nel.
  • Top bowlers of the season: Rudi le Roux, Anton van der Linde and Johann Botha.
  • Player of the year: Rudi le Roux.

All of the players were thanked for their contributions and encouraged to stay involved and share their ideas on how to improve the club for the new season.
