Warning: Strong winds and severe thunderstorms to hit Gauteng this afternoon
Severe thunderstorms, damaging winds could be expected today says the South African Weather Service.
Strong winds and severe thunderstorms are set to hit Gauteng this afternoon, between 2pm and 6pm.
This is according to the South African Weather Service, who released the warning this morning as a severe weather watch, which is an alert calling for preparedness to weather hazards that will most likely occur within one to three days and that could lead to disruptive and disastrous conditions.
The following warnings were issued:
- Damaging Winds
Strong winds are expected in parts of Gauteng from today, mainly during the afternoon.
- Severe Thunderstorms:
Severe thunderstorms have been predicted for parts of Gauteng today and tomorrow.
Residents are urged to take the necessary precautions when travelling and are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances when driving.
Headlights should also be kept on at all times to increase visibility.
Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
