Water restrictions lifted, residents urged to continue saving water

Metro encourages water conservation amid lifting of restrictions.

Water restrictions have been lifted in Ekurhuleni.

This was confirmed at the monthly council meeting in the Germiston Council Chambers, last Thursday.

This lifting of restrictions follows the gazette by the National Department of Water and Sanitation to lift water restrictions in Gauteng, after improved water levels in the Vaal Dam.

However, the metro urges residents to continue using water sparingly.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe said, “Water restrictions have been lifted, but we urge residents and businesses to conserve water by always avoiding daytime irrigation between 7am and 5pm every day.

“When we water during the day, 40 per cent of the water evaporates due to the sunlight.”

The lifting of the water restrictions brings to an end the water restrictions punitive tariffs.
