Luso clinch super league win

Luso Africa FC’s senior side celebrate their first win in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League.

After a rough start to the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League, Luso Africa FC found their form and walked away with their first win of the season.

Luso hosted Kempton Park Football Club at Hattingh Park, on Saturday afternoon.

The home side looked in much better form than they have in previous weeks. However, they had to work hard for the win with the visitors hardly giving an inch.

Marco Da Graca’s goal, from a free kick in the early stages of the first half, opened the scoring for Luso.

Kempton were able to equalise soon after.

Good defence and attack from each side meant play was mostly restricted to the midfield with the few breaks from each side being answered by impressive saves by the teams’ goalkeepers.

The sides went into the change rooms 2-1.

The teams charged out onto the pitch for the second half, where Luso were awarded a rather fortunate penalty, which Fulvio Pereira slotted into the back of the net for his second goal of the match, and Luso’s third.

Marco Cabeleira scored the home side’s final goal of the match 10 minutes before the final whistle.

However, Kempton refused to back down and managed to score their third goal of the match through a penalty.

The penalty kick was first saved by Luso goalkeeper David Olowadas, but, the linesman instructed the penalty be taken again and Kempton was able to inch it past Olowadas into the back of net.

The visitors pushed hard for the equaliser but Luso held on for their first win of the season, winning 4-3.

Luso’s senior reserve team continued their unbeaten streak with a draw against visitors Kempton Park FC.

The two teams were evenly matched from the first whistle and went into half-time 1-1.

The second half proved tough for both teams, as they fought hard to win the game.

As soon as Kempton would score Luso would equalise, which meant the match ended 3-3, Nuno De Sousa and Dario Pereira were credited with scoring the match’s goals for Luso.

After this week’s win the first side looks forward to facing local rivals Germiston City Football Club in the first Germiston derby of the season.

The match will be held on Saturday at Germiston’s home grounds, the Germiston City Sports Grounds.

Other fixtures for the week:

  • Luso’s divison one veterans will take on Bedfordview Football Club in the cup final on Wednesday; the team is looking to complete the league with a win.
  • Luso’s SAB team will face XL Experience on Saturday at the KwaThema Stadium.
