Diandra blazes ahead to scoop coveted accolade

After years of hard work and dedication Germiston High School student Diandra du Preez was awarded a white blazer.

Many students were honoured during a special assembly at Germiston High School on Friday, but, none shone as bright as matric student Diandra du Preez.

Diandra was awarded one of the school’s highest honours, a white blazer, in recognition of her many achievements over the years.

Some of her achievements include half and full colours for rowing, half colours for athletics, sportswoman of the year (for two consecutive years), full academic colours, full cultural colours for her outstanding performance in the district and national ATKV Spellathon and the Stellenbosch Provincial Spellathon, as well as, a principal’s award and finally a service award for her four years as the school’s flag bearer.

Diandra walked to the stage to accept her award to a roar of applause and was tearful, as acting principal Gill Galiani helped her into her new blazer.

She told the GCN that she was overwhelmed and proud to have received the award.

“I am so proud I was able to achieve this, as it has been a goal of mine.

“When I first heard about the white blazers I was determined to get one and through hard work and dedication I did it,” she said happily.

Diandra now looks forward to wearing her new blazer proudly as she tackles the in-and-outs of her matric year.
