High standard at Tebbutt’s grading

Members of Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy impressed judges at their belt grading.

Different levels of kata and musical weapons were displayed at Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy’s belt grading on Saturday.

The club hosted a belt grading for 39 of their members.

“The members with white belts were grading to yellow, those with orange to green and yellow to orange,” said kanchu Alex Tebbutt.

“It was an excellent grading – everything went well.”

Tebbutt said he was impressed by the standard of the students.

“Most of the members grading were beginners but the standard of their performances was exceptionally high,” he said.

“They came prepared and I am proud of all of them.”

Tumelo (17) and Thato (15) Nyokong were among those hoping to grade from orange to green belts.

“This year’s grading was more challenging than when we were grading from white belts,” said Tumelo.

Thato agreed with her sister that this year’s grading was tougher.

“There was more fitness involved this time but we enjoyed it all,” she said.

All the members graded to higher belts.
