Potholes take over Katlehong streets

Local PR councillors say the roads and stormwater infrastructure in Katlehong need to be looked at urgently.

Local DA PR councillors in Ekurhuleni are up in arms due to the “metro’s complete disregard of the rapidly deteriorating state of roads in and around the Katlehong area”.

Four councillors, namely, Clr Lucky Dinake, Clr Golden Maduana, Clr Lucky Mokhoana and Clr Simangele Sabe, recently visited the area to check on the state of the roads and the storm-water infrastructure.

“Motorists have suffered terrible damage to their vehicles and have incurred enormous expenses as a direct result of the municipality’s indifference towards the situation.

“Numerous reports of the cavernous trenches that occupy the streets of our community have been submitted by the residents and councillors and these have worsened, as a result of the recent heavy rains,” Dinake said.

The councillors added that the storm-water drainage system in Katlehong, and in fact Germiston as a whole, needs an upgrade and regular maintenance.

“The metro continues to ignore the cries of families who have found themselves flooded out of their homes with no refuge from the status quo.

“Despite the efforts of concerned residents and councillors, the metro has taken no action to remedy this situation.

“We believe that the residents of Katlehong, like all in Ekurhuleni, deserve better than the silent neglect that has been offered by the metro,” Dinake said.
