Top spot for rowing makes school history

Assumption Convent School’s rowers excelled at the SA Schools Rowing Championship Regatta.

Assumption Convent School’s rowing team recently took part in the SA Schools Rowing Championship Regatta.

All rowing schools and clubs in the country take part in this event, as well as a number of schools from Zimbabwe.

There were 1 300 athletes entered into the three-day regatta, of which Assumption had 36 girls entered.

Some of the school’s most notable results achieved were:

  • Courtney Westley who won gold and is now the u-15 Scull South Africa Champion.
  • Courtney Westley and Tannith Johnson who won silver in the u-15 double section.
  • The u-15 girls’ quad won gold by 0.78 seconds.

At the prize-giving the u-14 age group was ranked third in the country and the u-15 age group was ranked first overall, the first time in the school’s history.
