Community’s help leads to arrest of man suspected of murder in Buhle Park

A man was arrested on a charge of murder and it was discovered he has other pending cases against him.

Elsburg SAPS members were called out to Buhle Park Phase Four, at about 10.30pm, last Friday.

Upon their arrival on the scene they were greeted by the sight of a man lying on the ground with an open wound to his upper body.

Paramedics, who were already present, could not save the man and they declared him dead on the scene.

“According to information received it was alleged that the deceased was shot by a person known in the community and after the man allegedly committed the crime he fled and did not return to his home,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“Investigating officer Sgt Sam Molopyane appealed to community members that if they obtained any information about the suspect they must inform him immediately.”

Thanks to community members acting as the eyes and ears of the police, it was later established that the man had fled to his birthplace in Limpopo.

The man was traced and arrested.

“He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm which is also believed to have been used in the commission of a crime where there is a murder case opened on February 17 in Buhle Park,” said Phooko.

“The 33-year-old suspect was detained at the Elsburg Police Station and according to his profile it is alleged he has several pending cases for robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm against him.”

He has appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody pending further investigation.
