Police seize unlicensed firearm during arrest

A man was recently arrested in Katlehong for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

During a stop-and-search held in Kgotso Street last Saturday, Katlehong police noticed a suspicious vehicle.

“Officers stopped the vehicle and asked the driver to exit so that they could search him and the vehicle,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.

During the search the police found a firearm and ammunition.

“Police asked the suspect for proof of ownership for the 9mm pistol, however, he was unable to give police a licence for the firearm,” said Ndobe.

This 30-year-old man was arrested by the Katlehong police for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The man was arrested and taken to the Katlehong Police Station.

“During processing police discovered that the suspect’s wife had recently been to the station to open a case of domestic violence against him.

“Officers are currently investigating the claims,” said Ndobe.

The man has since appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
