Beware – more heavy rain predicted for Gauteng

South African Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms and heavy rains predicted in parts of the province from lunch time.

Several areas in Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg  were left flooded as the heavens opened yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.

Today (Friday) the South African Weather Service has asked residents to be prepared for more thunderstorms, heavy rainfall this afternoon, as well as, hot and humid weather.

The service this morning released the following warnings:

  • Severe Thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of heavy downpours, localised flooding and hail are expected in parts of Gauteng.

These storms are expected to hit the province in the afternoon.

  • High discomfort values

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over Gauteng heading into the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the high twenties over the weekend.

Residents are urged to take precautions when in the sun and are reminded to keep themselves and their pets hydrated and cool.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling in wet weather, and are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
