Thunder MMA opens its doors

A new mixed martial arts club in Elsburg invites more people to join.

Mixed Martial Arts fans will be thrilled to know that a new club has been opened in Elsburg.

Thunder MMA is up and running and headed up by EFC fighter Pietie “Thunder” Coxen.

“We are excited and happy with the response we have received thus far,” said Coxen.

“We had five of our members competing at the Gauteng Fighting Championships (GFC) in December and they managed to get four wins and one loss.

“These results are impressive because the club is still in its infant stages but we are able to handle competition pressure.”

The club invites more people to join.

“We offer boxing, kickboxing, fitness, mixed martial arts, self-defence, wrestling, jiu-jitsu and a children’s class,” explained Coxen.

“Everyone is welcome to join and the starting age for children is two years old.

“Even if you don’t want to be a fighter, you are welcome to come for fitness training,” he said.

The club has two assistant coaches, Damon Spike and Neels Mahoney.

“Spike assists with stand-up, kickboxing and boxing while Mahoney assists with wrestling,” said Coxen.

“I am still an active fighter and whatever I learn and have learnt over the years I bring to the members.”

The club holds practices every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm until 8pm and Coxen also hosts private classes on weekends.

“People interested in joining are welcome to come to the club or get in contact with us through Twitter using our handle @THUNDERMMA1.”

The club is situated at 45 Parnell Road, in Elsburg.
