Forecasters have warned of the impact of tropical cyclone Dineo on parts of South Africa

South Africa Weather Service warns that tropical cyclone Dineo will move into parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo from Thursday evening.

The South African Weather Service has warned that the tropical cyclone Dineo will move into parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo from Thursday evening, February 16.

Forecasters have warned that the impact of the storm will be felt on Friday, in these regions, through heavy rainfall, flooding and strong winds.

They are, therefore, warning residents living in or travelling through low-lying areas to be vigilant.

The service will continue to give updates on the storm’s progression as tropical cyclones can lose track and/or change direction.

For Gauteng the service has warned of:

  • Heavy Rain

Heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding in areas this afternoon, with special focus on the central and southern parts of Gauteng.

  • Veld Fire Conditions

Veld fire condition are expected over the southern parts of Gauteng.

In addition, temperatures in the province are expected to remain in the high twenties to low thirties for the rest of the week.

Residents are urged to take precautions when in the sun and are reminded to keep themselves and their pets hydrated and cool in hot weather.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling in wet weather.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
