Podium positions for athletes

Athletes secure six first places at athletics meeting.

Germiston Callies Harriers athletes attended Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA)’s third league meeting held at the University of Johannesburg Athletics Stadium on Saturday.

The athletes who represented their club and Germiston were Pedro Aaron, Kayla Gilbert, Verusca Woest, Simonè van der Nest and Tanya Ekhardt.

The local youngsters and other athletes at the meeting are building up to provincial and national championships and this was evident in the exceptional performance witnessed at the stadium.

The local athletes clinched six first places in their respective age groups

Their results are:

  • Aaron – first place in the junior boys’ long jump.
  • Gilbert – first place in the senior women’s long jump.
  • Woest – first place in the youth girls’ 100m and 200m sprint heat.
  • Van der Nest – first place in the junior girls’ 100m sprint heat.
  • Ekhardt – first place in the mixed junior and senior women’s 100m hurdles.

“These are impressive results, the hard work and determination that these athletes put in during training is paying off,” said the local athletes’ coach, Stephanè Kotzè.

“I am proud of them and hope for more great results going forward.”
