Family loves their unique sunflower plant

Surprise sunflower plant brings family joy.

The Kruger family, Antoinette, Jaco, Reynhard (16), Ian (13) and Wesley (8) are extremely proud of the sunflower plant growing in their Kruger Street, Elsburg, garden.

And to make the plant even more special and unique to them, it grew as a complete surprise.

Normally Jaco cleans the family’s pet African grey parrot’s cage, but one day in November, Wesley said he wanted to clean it in order to earn some pocket money.

“I said he could clean it,” Antoinette said.

“We normally empty the cage into a refuse bag, but he emptied it into the garden.”

The family noticed the plant growing over the next few weeks but didn’t really take that much notice of it.

“Every Saturday we watered the garden and left it.

“In December, when we went on holiday, the plant was about a metre tall, with only one sunflower on it,” Antoinette said.

“When we returned home on December 23, we found that the sunflower plant had grown rapidly and more sunflowers had bloomed.

“It just keeps on blooming and blooming ,and we counted 43 sunflowers on the plant.”

Antoinette said they have two other sunflower plants in their garden, but those only have one flower each on them, so they are doing everything possible to ensure their unique, special sunflower plant keeps blooming.
