Councillor adopts 90 learners

Ninety learners stand to benefit from the Ntsane Masiloane School Enrichment Programme (NMSEP).

The chief whip’s office, in Ekurhuleni, has committed itself to assisting to improve this year’s matric results.

This follows recent visits to various schools around Ekurhuleni, where some of the schools’ performances dropped compared to previous years.

Approximately 90 learners across Ekurhuleni will be assisted to improve their marks in mathematics, science and accounting by ensuring that they are enrolled with the Ntsane Masiloane School Enrichment Programme (NMSEP), where they will be assisted in their studies.

Ekurhuleni ANC chief whip, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, recently visited Tlakula High School in KwaThema, adopted the school and said that this year’s results must show an improvement.

Parents, teachers and learners met at the school and agreed that this year’s matric results should improve.

Dlabathi said this is in line with the metro’s aim to increase the number of bachelor passes and the performance of learners in township schools, in order for them to gain access to institutions of higher learning.

The founder of NMSEP, Ntsane Masiloane, said they appreciate the intervention that is being made by the chief whip’s office in ensuring that learners are supported in improving their performances and achieving great results.

“We appreciate that resources are now brought to township schools, unlike before where learners had to spend more money to be assisted,” said Masiloane.

Labane Mohlabi Secondary School principal, Orlando Mpatlanyane, lauded the initiative, saying he believes the project will assist learners a great deal.

“Learners will get extra tuition on the subjects that are said to be difficult; this will definitely improve their results at the end of the year,” he said.

Parents and learners also expressed their excitement about the programme.

“I am grateful to be part of this progamme, and I promise to work hard in ensuring that I score good results,” said Grade 12 student at Labane Mohlabi Secondary School, Jessica Chiawu.

The learners will be supported in mathematics, science and accounting from Monday to Friday and Saturdays in KwaThema, Daveyton and Katlehong.
